  7. information on Novell DOS 7, the next generation of DOS.

  15.         SAN JOSE, CA -- MARCH 24, 1993 -- Reflecting the company's 
  16. commitment to the world's largest installed operating system and 
  17. the needs of DOS customers for enhanced functionality and better 
  18. networking support, Novell today announced Novell DOS 7, available 
  19. this summer, will significantly extend DOS technology and enhance 
  20. client support, peer-to-peer networking, a network management 
  21. agent, network installation, pre-emptive multitasking, enhanced 
  22. memory management and desktop security, as well as a suite of 
  23. protected mode drivers.  Novell DOS 7 is the first major DOS 
  24. upgrade to be released from Novell's Desktop Systems Group.
  25.         Novell DOS 7 is designed to be easy to use, install and 
  26. administer.  Its robust technology offers tighter integration with 
  27. NetWare and scalable solutions from the emerging palmtop market to 
  28. desktop PCs.  Novell's DOS 7 will also continue to provide the best 
  29. foundation for Microsoft Windows by offering Drag-and -Drop network 
  30. resource capabilities.  Novell DOS 7 benefits from another key 
  31. technology known as DOS Protected Mode Services (DPMS), an API that 
  32. allows device drivers and TSRs to reside in extended memory and 
  33. execute in protected mode on 286, 386 and 486 computers. DPMS 
  34. greatly reduces the demand for conventional memory, allowing 
  35. customers to leverage more existing memory for applications.
  36.         Having access to network service is a critical element in 
  37. today's enterprise computing environment.  Novell recognizes that 
  38. as desktop operating systems evolve, they must continue to be 
  39. tightly integrated with the information and services found in the 
  40. NetWare environment, whether those desktop systems are integrated 
  41. into a workgroup or an enterprise solution.  "Novell DOS 7, our 
  42. next product offering is more tightly integrated with NetWare," 
  43. said Steve Tucker, Novell vice president and general manager.  
  44. "Novell DOS 7 will increase our lead over the competition in 
  45. providing advanced DOS system software," he added.

  49.         DPMS is a DOS version-independent and Microsoft
  50. Windows-compatible API that provides protected mode support for 
  51. device drivers and TSRs.  By implementing DPMS, developers can 
  52. easily add functionality and reduce conventional memory 
  53. requirements of their programs.  The API is available now as a 
  54. Software Developers Kit (SDK) to third party developers.  
  55. Developers will be able to license and distribute DPMS free of 
  56. royalty charges. Novell DOS 7 will include several DPMS client 
  57. components server, and CD-ROM extensions.  The DPMS SDK is priced 
  58. at $195.00 and is available through Novell's Professional 
  59. Developers Program.

  71.         SAN JOSE, CA -- May 24, 1993 --  In another move to provide 
  72. users with the most advanced DOS operating system available, Novell 
  73. today announced the addition of fully integrated utilities from 
  74. Fifth Generation Systems.  These utilities are designed to protect 
  75. users from virus infection and provide reliable, high performance 
  76. backup all through easy to use, full screen interfaces.
  77.         Fifth Generation is a leading developer of DOS, Microsoft 
  78. Windows, Macintosh, UnixWare and NetWare utility software for 
  79. backup, anti-virus, security, recovery and communications.  Novell 
  80. DOS 7, the next generation of DOS and a major upgrade to DR DOS 
  81. 6.0, will be available this summer.
  82.         "To provide our customers with the best data security and 
  83. reliability available in the industry, Novell has licensed the 
  84. leading anti-virus utility and a fast and dependable backup and 
  85. restore utility for DOS and Microsoft Windows," said Steve Tucker,

  87. "It is Novell's philosophy to leverage the care competencies of our 
  88. industry partners to provide the optimal solution for our customer 
  89. in a timely manner."
  90.         Search & Destroy is Fifth Generation's anti-virus utility 
  91. for DOS and Microsoft Windows.  While memory resident, Search & 
  92. Destroy is the least memory intensive virus monitor available in 
  93. the industry.  Also included is an ongoing virus scanner and 
  94. removal utility, to provide reliable protection for executable, 
  95. compressed and archived files.  Novell DOS 7 also includes Fifth 
  96. Generation's Fastback Express, a fully integrated backup and 
  97. restore utility for DOS and Microsoft Windows.  Utilizing DMA 
  98. (Direct Memory Access), Fastback Express provides high performance 
  99. and reliable backup and restore functionality to users.  Fastback 
  100. Express is NetWare-aware, ensuring preservation and restoration of 
  101. all NetWare file attributes, which saves time and is a convenience 
  102. factor for NetWare users using Novell DOS 7.
  103.         The fully integrated networking security, data compression, 
  104. memory management and multitasking features of Novell DOS 7, 
  105. together with the utilities from Fifth Generaton, are an example of 
  106. Novell's continuing commitment to DOS customers.  Search & Destroy 
  107. guards against thousands of today's known viruses and supports Drag 
  108. and Drop functionality for Microsoft and directories from Microsoft 
  109. Windows.
